Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Project Services Manager with our client who is a leading mining company in about an hour east of Phoenix, AZ.

This position will be on a temporary contract basis and located working remotely with potential business trips to Phoenix, AZ USA

Manage all project support and administration functions for generally larger and more complex global Engineering & Construction projects, value between US$500 million and US$1 Billion, including alignment of project activities to business goals, financial and resource allocation, audit and control of project programs and management of project coordination with internal departments and external service providers.

  • Manage the planning and execution of generally larger and more complex project support services and administration for Engineering & Construction including the identification, sourcing and mobilization/ demobilization of project owners team staff within projects, hiring of local staff for project support, and establishing agreements with support vendors.
  • Facilitate and lead training requirements for larger quantities and more diverse project support personnel including project specific, discipline specific, and Freeport specific training for all on projects. Ensure all contractors on project adhere to site and Freeport specific requirements.
  • Lead the establishment and management of required project support services for all phases of more complex domestic and international projects including transportation, accommodation, security, safety, offices, IT, business services and quality for all work locations defined by the project. This includes industrial relations with existing operations and all contractors on the project.
  • Lead the identification and successful implementation of project labor support execution strategies. This would generally include more complex project specific items such as visas/work permits, payrolling, mobilization/demobilization packages, taxation and statutory requirements for project management support labor on the project. Also lead the definition and implementation of responsible to define and implement strategies to align these with any location specific legal and social requirements.
  • Lead the monitoring and reporting on supplier performance against all project support services contracts, work plans, schedules and milestones. Identify and report on contractor staffing statuses and trends in larger and more complex contractor populations and work densities. Recommend changes in contracts and contractor staffing.
  • Lead the development of controls to standardize and ensure compliance with generally larger and more complex project specific, departmental and company policies and procedures which ensure uniform administration on all Engineering & Construction projects
  • Serve as project manager when project manager is offsite. Manage additional areas of larger and more complex Engineering & Construction projects as required by project management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering discipline or equivalent in training and/or field experience and a minimum of nine (9) years progressive experience in the field including a familiarity with processes, systems, and terminology in project management, engineering, and construction; OR
  • High School diploma or GED and a minimum of thirteen (13) years progressive experience in the field including a familiarity with processes, systems, and terminology in project management, engineering, and construction

Knowledge; Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to manage project support and administration functions from inception to completion for complex projects
  • Ability to lead and make decisions quickly with limited information
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, work plans and schedules
  • Ability to understand construction staffing and rapidly identify staffing problems
  • Ability to deal effectively with construction contractors
  • Ability to lead the management of a project
  • Strong oral and written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to capture and analyze Project databases
  • Ability to exhibit technical and operational professional competency to resolve difficult problems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Project Services Manager
  • Experience in the mining and metallurgical processing industry
  • Experience in remote location construction camp management
  • Prior EPCM construction experience preferred
  • Predominant experience in project based roles
Working as a team member (Client, EPCM & Contractors)
