About this role: Buyer

Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Buyer working for our client who are a large global mining company, this a long term contract working remotely.

The primary responsibilities of the Buyer at PTFI would include: daily supply chain management practices, handling the purchasing needs and achieving project procurement goals and objectives through the execution of sourcing policies and procedures. Purchasing at PTFI means always procuring materials and services at the highest quality level required with the best cost on a timely basis. The Buyer will proactively manage the supply base and provide critical operational support aligned with the departments strategic vision and direction.

Major Duties and Tasks:

  • Coordinate and execute the day to day buying operations including daily placement of orders, solicitations and organization of quoting, problem solving and expediting orders as needed
  • Performs all aspects of value-added purchasing and managing inventory levels within stocking parameters
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal constituents and vendors
  • Develop a basic understanding of basic incoterms, harmonized tariff codes, uniform commercial code parameters, negotiation techniques, and understanding of contract information
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Supply Chain



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing (preferred), Materials Management, Business Administration or a business-related field, or five (5) or more years’ experience in a formal purchasing environment
  • Experience in a project construction environment and knowledge of MRP/ERP systems a plus
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Production Management and Inventory Control (C.P.I.M.) a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Possess a solid understanding and demonstrated experience in purchasing concepts and practices, terms and conditions, and contract/price negotiation; excellent negotiations skills required
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and computer skills including exceptional Microsoft Suite skills
  • Show initiative and creative problem solving
  • Keep up on market trends and changes in business practices
  • Manage domestic and international vendor base
  • Knowledge of import logistics and transactions
